Conductor
of the Classroom Symphony wins North Carolina V.F.W. Teacher of
the Year

Shearon
Miller,
is a 7 year veteran music educator at C. Wayne Collier
Elementary School in Hope Mills. He was recently named NC V.F.W.
Teacher of the Year after winning the local and district
competitions.
Miller
believes that all children can learn and through participation
in music and arts program they can foster creativity and a
positive outlook that enhances their overall academic growth.
He
provides many opportunities for student success and growth. He
encourages his students to participate in community productions
and the FSU Holiday Choir. Some of his students will be featured
in the upcoming production of The Wizard of Oz.
Additionally,
he works with an all male Martin Luther King Choir for boys in
grades 3-5 through a partnership with FSU. Every year he has
students featured in the All County Chorus in Cumberland County.
Miller is a member of the Heritage Restoration Chorale as well.
Miller
resides in Hope Mills and is a 1999 graduate of North Johnston
High School and a 2005 graduate of Livingstone College with a BA
in Music Education K-12 with a concentration in vocal
performance. He has served as a staff development presenter for
other educators with CCS and is a former Teacher of the Month.
Miller
is the 2011-12 Teacher of the Year at C. Wayne Collier
Elementary School.
